What is an African greeting video? A complete guide

A personalized video performed in Africa, made for one person. Here is how African greeting videos work, what to write, what they cost, and how to choose a team.

An African greeting video is a short, personalized video message performed by a team in Africa. You choose the team, the song, and the words. They film it, and it arrives by email — usually within a few days.

It is part card, part performance, and part keepsake. The format has become popular for birthdays, graduations, weddings, and long-distance family moments because it does something a text cannot: it makes the recipient feel like someone stopped everything to celebrate them.

What makes it “African”?

The performance, the place, and the people. The video is filmed in Africa by African dance and music teams, often outdoors in natural light. Styling ranges from bright sportswear to traditional grass-skirt costumes, depending on the team you choose.

It is not a single style, and it is not meant to represent the whole continent. Africa is enormous and varied. A good greeting video is specific: one team, one place, one performance made for one person.

What is included in a typical order

  • A personalized chalkboard with the recipient’s name or a short message.
  • A song performance — usually one song, sometimes two.
  • A spoken phrase performed directly to camera.
  • An HD video file and a private viewing link.
  • Email delivery within 1–3 business days.

At Qteros, every product page lists exactly what is included, the approximate length, and who the team is best for. Prices range from $43 to $57.

How the process works

  1. Choose a team. Match the energy to the person: playful, cinematic, traditional, or minimal.
  2. Add your details. Name, phrase, pronunciation notes, song choice, and the occasion.
  3. We film. The team writes the board, rehearses the phrase, and performs it outdoors.
  4. You receive it. A private link and downloadable file arrive by email.

There is no app to install and no address to provide. If you can send an email, you can send a video greeting.

How to write a message that works on camera

The camera magnifies vagueness. A message that feels fine in a text can sound stiff when spoken aloud. Keep these three rules in mind:

1. Write for the ear, not the page

Short sentences. Contractions. Words you would actually say. “Happy birthday, Amara. We hope this year brings you every good thing” works. “Wishing you a most auspicious anniversary of your birth” does not.

2. Be specific

Mention one thing only you would know: their love of a particular song, a trip you took together, the way they always make too much food. Specificity is what makes a stranger’s performance feel personal.

3. Say their name

The name is the emotional anchor of the video. Add a pronunciation note if it is often misread. We will practice it before filming.

AI can generate a face and a voice. It cannot give someone a memory of being welcomed. If the point is to make a person feel seen, real people are the better technology.

How to choose a team

Start with the recipient’s taste, not yours. A friend who loves minimal design may prefer the The Mercenaries. A grandparent might love the warmth of the Leopard Team. A teenager might light up at the Flying Tigers.

If you are stuck, browse the dance greetings collection or email us with a sentence about the person. We will point you in the right direction.

Timing and price

Standard delivery is 1–3 business days after payment. Prices are in US dollars and include the personalization described on the product page. There are no shipping costs because there is nothing to ship.
